BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- China suffered the third straight defeat by losing 2-1 to Kazakhstan here on Friday at the IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship Division I Group B which concluded all competitions.
The Netherlands beat Poland 2-0 for their promotion with a perfect 5-0 record. South Korea outscored Latvia 4-1, and Latvia was relegated to the lower level.
Kazakhstan avoided relegation thanks to the victory over China. China accumulated six points for the fourth place.
Kazakhstan showed their desire to play aggressive. However, the host team outplayed them 12-9 in shooting attempts, with neither team scoring in the first period.
Much to the disappointment of the home crowd, Kazakhstan opened the account in the second period through Larisa Sviridova at 28:31, and led 2-0 by Galia Nurgaliyeva three and half minutes later.
After a time-out, the host team dominated the last minutes with Ma Rui pulling one back in a goalmouth scramble, but failed to find the equalizer.
"The game is OK for us," said China coach Jakob Koelliker. "In the first period we had a couple of good chances but we didn't make any goal. They played very hard."
"We tried our best, and I think we missed some lucky clicks tonight," said Chinese player He Xin.
